The world has lost a very special human being, legendary guitarist and wonderful friend in Jimmy Capps. The legendary guitarist passed away last month at the age of 81.
Often referred to as “the master of smoothness” by his peers, Capps’ seemingly effortless technique earned him a spot on the world-famous Grand Ole Opry stage for more than 50 years.
Over the past several decades, the sounds of his guitars have accompanied incredible artists like Johnny Cash, Kenny Rodgers, George Jones, The Oak Ridge Boys, Tammy Wynette and Barbara Mandrell, among others. Some of his most famous accompaniments include Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man,” Rodgers’ “The Gambler” and The Oak Ridge Boys’ “Elvira.”
Capps also had a recurring TV role as a guitar-playing sheriff on the musical variety show “Larry’s Country Diner,” which has been airing on the RFD Network since 2009.
But beyond his extraordinary talent and phenomenal musical career, Capps was also a wonderful, gentle and kind man who was beloved by all who were blessed to know him in the industry and beyond—and that includes all of us here at SCHERTLER.
Our sincerest condolences go out to his wife Michele—his manager and the love of his life who was always by his side—as well as his family, friends and fans. Rest in peace and play on with the angels, dear brother. There will always be an empty spot on the world’s stage without you here.
